Honey is the Hero at the Clocktower Restaurant this September... ..as a Harrogate and Ripon Beekeeper has been chosen to be Food Hero in the Clocktower's continuing campaign to support local food and local food producers. Mike Rowbottom, of Arcadian Apiaries and Chair of the Harrogate and Ripon Beekeeper's Association, will be providing the honey for Executive Chef Stephanie Moon's special September menu featuring honey as an ingredient. Mike and Judith Rowbottom have been keeping bees for over 15 years and produce a variety of honeys which are extracted and bottled on their premises. At the height of the summer they may have over 2 million bees in their apiaries which are normally situated within eight miles of the Clocktower and Rudding Park. In Augist some of the hives are moved up to the Yorkshire Moors about 17 miles away, to produce the very special Heather Honey. As Chair of the Harrogate and Ripon Beekeepers Association, Mike is all too familiar with the problems and challenges the association members are encountering at this time and is delighted to receive such high profile support for local beekeeping from the Clocktower and such a great opportunity to promote honeynd its benefits to the hotel and restaurant guests. Executive Chef Stepahnie Moon said "We are delighted to be supporting Harrogate Beekeepers with honey as our food hero for September. The Blossom Honey is a breakfast regular here at Rudding Park and now with Hether Honey and some other varieties on the menu we are offering our guests a real healthy sweet taste of Yorkshire. "Some Honey dishes to try from the Yorkshire Food Heroes menu are our Harrogate honey glazed local goat's cheese with brioche toast and crispy panecetta or for a main course why not try our Yorkshire moorland heather honey glazed lamb brochette with tarragon mash and caramelised onions. Then for a sweet treat Vanilla Panacotta and red wine poached pear with Rapeseed honey caremelised almond biscotti."
